Following an introduction into the life situation and potential of semi-skilled and unskilled workers, the authors present model projects in their contributions, in which basic education is combined with vocational training. The second thread is concerned with validation of non-formally or informally acquired vocational skills. The aim is the use of new concepts and assessment criteria to break the association between entry into the world of work and formally acquired and certified educational qualifications.
